(b) Rent allowance granted for private premises
shared by two or more officers shall be paid only to one
of them, and shall be equal to the lowest such allowance
payable to any one of the officers.
(c) An officer shall not be deemed to share
premises if, during the temporary absence of his dependents
not exceeding two months, he arranges for another officer
or officers to live with him.
(5) Rent for quarters.
(a) Every officer to
whom quarters are allotted except as part of his emoluments
shall be liable to pay rent for quarters for the whole
period of the allotment.
(b) Subject to the directions of the Governor in
particular cases, rent for quarters shall be calculated on
salary at the following rates :-
(i) on salaries of officers drawing any salary in Part I of Appendix VI
(ii) on salaries of officers whose emoluments include free quarters but not furnished quarters
(iii) on other salaries
for furnished quarters -13 per cent.
for unfurnished quarters
12 per cent.
for furnished quarters
1 per cent.
for furnished quarters
7 per cent.
for unfurnished quarters
6 per cent.
But if quarters are allotted in connexion with
an officer's work, at or near his working premises, rent
shall be reduced by 6 per cent. of his salary.
(6) Rent allowances. (a) A rent allowance may be
granted to any officer to whom no quarters are for the time
being allotted, and subject to paragraph (4) (b) shall be
calculated as follows:-
